Dance

We are extremely proud that all children from reception to year 6 have weekly dance lessons with a specialist teacher – Deme.

Intent

Dance at Torridon intends to have uncompromising aspirations for every child and for our school to be an exceptional and inspirational dance community. We aim to encourage children to build confidence in their own abilities and give them opportunities to communicate these through their dance experience. Children experience dance once a week through a creative arts carousel.

Dance is taught through choreography, performance, appreciation, study of professional works, dance artists and linked to whole school topic learning.

Our dance curriculum is diverse and respectful, celebrating and nurturing talent. We believe that dance is for all, which is why we offer enrichment and extra-curricular opportunities in the form of after school clubs, the arts award qualification, performances and the schools dance companies – Unity and Kickstart. The dance companies provide opportunities to extend and challenge children taking part.

By the end of Key Stage 2 children will be able to perform within a group and demonstrate an ability to explore and communicate ideas through dance, using techniques that are an extension of dance at KS1. They will have acquired knowledge of the process of choreography using the key skills of Actions, Dynamics, Space and Relationships. Children will use a wide range of dance vocabulary to express their opinion.
