PSHE

At Torridon our PSHE curriculum is designed to:

  • Promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school and in society.
  •  Prepares pupils at the school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

At Torridon, PSHE is taught specifically across school and also during assemblies, and is a fundamental part of the children’s school experience. We believe that successful PSHE supports children’s learning capacity, and this aspect of the school’s work is taken extremely seriously. We believe that it promotes wellbeing and underpins a child’s development as a person. In all subjects, children are taught the importance of developing their self-belief, resilience and perseverance and supports success across the wider curriculum and in social contexts. Through many aspects of the curriculum, children are exposed to positive role models, learn about local heritage and celebrate difference in a number of ways. We discuss strategies that will help our mental health and well-being.

To support our aims, the school is a member of the DfE funded PSHE association and Jigsaw. We follow a scheme of work, which is a comprehensive, carefully thought-through Scheme of Work which brings consistency and progression to our children’s learning in this vital curriculum area.
